Mulled wine
A spicy winter drink
“This spicy drink is ideal for warming up. That´s actually one of the things I miss the most from my times in the UK.”
Mulled wine is only prepared during winter time and it is the perfect appetiser for the Christmas season. Port, cognac, Irish crème and eggnog also tend to make an appearance during this season.
Mulled wine is said to have Roman origins and it is still very popular in Austria, England and Germany. Scandinavia also has a fruit juice version of mulled wine, called glogg, whilst in the Americas, Chile has a version called vino navegado or sailing wine, also made from wine and spices.
The recipe according to the BBC is based in two steps: prepare and drink! Ingredients:
Half a bottle of red wine (we recommend a young temperanillo), 1 cinnamon stick , 2 star anise, 2 cloves, 1 orange, 1 lemon (yellow not green! Just double checking), 50 grams of brown sugar.
Preparation method: Place all ingredients into a stainless steal saucepan, ceramic or crock pot and simmer for 8 minutes. Easy peasy!
