All about the Cava & Sitges.

You will go deep into in the heart of the Denomination of Origin Penedès wine region, the birthplace of cava and renowned for its green landscape where almost half of the area is covered by vineyards. The three most common grapes used when making cava are local varieties: Xareló, Perellada and Macabeau.

You will visit two different wine cellars: the 1st one is the Cathedral of cava located on the outskirts of the Cava making hub, Sant Sadurni d´Anoia. A real architectonic gem of the Catalan Modernism, a fascinating building designed and built by well-known Catalan architect, Josep Puig i Cadafalch (who also designed Casa Amatller in Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona.

The 2nd visit is at the first wine cellar ever to produce organic wine in Spain. This is a well-known wine cellar due to its innovative spirit, all taking place inside a charming rural finca. Taste three multiple-award winning organic wines, whilst enjoying its setting and views of the countryside and vineyards close by.

A full three course Catalan lunch including wine at a local establishment, still run by generations of the same family.

Then, visit Sitges, a town which have been attracting renowned intellectuals, painters, sculptors and architects from all over the world and famous for its film festival, carnival and its wide and long seaside promenade. Expect good weather, as Sitges enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine every year.

Our favourite day in Spain! First of all, Mariana picked up the phone on a Sunday night and after a few phone calls to our destinations, she confirmed we would be picked up the very next morning. She was incredibly knowledgeable - not just about Barcelona and the wine country but she has travelled and lived abroad extensively so she was great to talk to. For lunch she took us to a very small, local restaurant that we never would have found on our own and it was superb.
