Vinya Celler Masia awards
Anyone can be a wine reviewer and very successfully so!
“Is there anything more original and enjoyable than participating from home in a wine tasting contest as a judge?
Well, this is what Vinya Celler Masia has been doing and very successfully, for the past 5 years.
Based in Vilafranca del Penedès, the VCM has designed a novel way to attract the average Joe to enter, participate and learn about the world of wine in the company of friends and family.”
There are several factors to bear in mind. It is not possible to narrow down or describe what a Catalan wine flavour should be. The reason is that within a rather small area, there are 11 Denominations of Origin, each with its own terroir (particular geographic, geologic and climate attributes) as not two places are the same. Whilst an area is exposed to the fresh Med sea breeze throughout the year, some are protected from freezing conditions by the Montserrat mountain; some are located in higher, uneven ground whilst others are flat and sun drenched most of the year.
Vinya Celler Masia is formed by a selection of wine cellars collaborating in partnership when three conditions are met:
Its vineyard (vinya) must be owned by the member.
Its cellar (celler) must have the appropriate infrastructure to elaborate and age wine from its own grapes.
Its farmhouse (masia) is not just a wine producing building, but should facilities enough to be a home as to be able to live inside.
The seal of quality VCM guarantees the origin and traceability of its wines, covering the whole process from growing the vine up until the brand is sold in the market.
All partners observe and follow this letter of commitment:
“Respect our land, work our vineyards, harvest our grapes, vinify and produce our own wines, live within our vineyards, bottle our wine in our cellar, sell our wines and our brand, working to improve and respect our traditions, love our country, our wine and our culture, protect our wines with our seal VCM.”
The results of the 5th Vinya Celler Masia awards 2014 took place on the 23rd of January 2015 at Palau Robert in Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona.
All twelve contestants proposed their very best wines of the year, with their own exquisite flavours, aromas and characteristics. The fortunate winner as voted by the people was Gramona.
“Although there was fierce competition, we were delighted by the people´s choice and congratulate all involve!”
